Lewis Ingham

Lewis Ingham is a Melbourne-based composer passionate about the presentation of new music in unique and immersive performance environments. A recent composition graduate from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Lewis’ music has a deep focus in exploring the textural and timbral capabilities of instruments within solo and ensemble contexts. Underneath his infatuation with extended techniques, Lewis offers slowly evolving progressions with a particular emphasis on singular gestures.

Early in 2017, Lewis participated as a composer in the Tilde New Music Academy, the program leading to a later collaboration with cellist Nikki Edgar. The result of this collaboration, A Storm, A City, was a large scale work for cello and electronics composed by Lewis and performed by Nikki in May 2017. Lewis was also recently a participant in a composition program at the 2017 Charlotte New Music Festival (NC, USA), where he had two compositions premiered by Beo String Quartet and Out of Bounds Ensemble.

On top of his composing, Lewis is a regular contributor to CutCommon Magazine, a role which allows him to further share his interest in new music presented by Australian composers and ensembles.
